I had a terrific romance dating a sweet, caring, and intelligent guy for two months. We shared so many interests and passions. It was an amazing connection and journey — until I left for vacation for six days. For the first three days I was away, he continued to correspond with me as usual. I got paranoid when he ghosted for the last three days — no contact. My friends told me that I was just trying to find fault in him and not really seeing clearly. They thought he was giving me space until I returned from holiday. He wanted me to enjoy my trip. (C’mon ladies! There’s nothing more narcissistic than a guy who wants you to think of him when you are away rather than meeting someone else on vacation.) I returned home, and still, no contact. He knew when I was due home because he had planned to see me. I took a gamble and contacted him.

Something felt different in his tone. I decided to actually ask what happened while I was away because he seemed different. I needed to make some sense of his silence. At least I got the truth: he met someone while I was out of the country. Yep, in three days, he met the woman of his dreams! I took the high road and wished him and his new conquest well — although I didn’t put it quite that way. I was very polite. He didn’t respond with any maturity or wish me well in return.

Four months later I received a text. He started by saying that this might be an awkward or unwelcome text, but he was wondering if I would be interested in a “hook-up.” Not an actual date, with an offer of dinner, a movie, or a sporting activity, BUT a hook-up … Seriously?!
